Frequently Asked Questions

Q : What is a "bespoke" suit?
A : It is one that is made to order based entirely on an individual's measurements.

Q : What are the advantages?
A : There are many advantages to a bespoke suit construction, fabric, cut, fit and quality for instance.

Q : What sets a House of Salgado suit apart?
A : In addition to being custom made, House of Salgado uses only the finest fabrics to create unparalleled bespoke gentleman's clothing including Zegna, Cerrutti, Holland and Sherry, Dormeuil and Barberis to name a few.

Q : Is there a difference between a bespoke suit and one made-to-measure?
A : A made to measure suit is individually tailored from an existing suit pattern. It is then simply altered in size for pant length, waist, chest and sleeve length for instance. A bespoke suit is truly custom made to order.

Q : How long does it take for you to make a suit?
A : It will take a few visits to the store to create your bespoke suit. During the first visit, a number of measurements will be taken in order for all garments to be crafted by being individually cut and fitted to each client during the basting (Skeleton) stage. The garment is then re-cut per the fitting corrections, prepared for a second fitting and checked to see if further adjustments are required.

Q : Do you offer any other products?
A : House of Salgado's product lines have been expanded over the years to include custom made shoes in addition to suits and shirts.

Q : Is it possible to purchase a "ready to wear" suit from House of Salgado?
A : We do not carry any "ready to wear" products opting instead to remain faithful to the creation of bespoke gentleman's suits and accessories.

Q : How long have you been in business?
A : House of Salgado has been a labour of love for the extended Salgado family for almost 50 years. The family started Rapido Alterations and Invisible Mending in 1960 and the House of Salgado grew out of this. Operations began in Burlington, Ontario and a store opened in Toronto's newly opened Royal Bank Plaza Tower. Founder Antonio Salgado and his son Mark continue the tradition today.

Q : The House of Salgado was recently on the "move". Where are you now?
A : The store has moved and is now located in the Toronto Dominion Centre, keeping House of Salgado close to its roots and Bay Street customers looking for bespoke suits.
